Located in the North of California, Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley are some of the most ethically diverse communities in the U.S. While immigration is one of the key issues affecting the health of California, such cities made up of largely uninsured immigrants face barriers in accessing oral health care. Additionally, while poverty remains to be a major program in Oakland (2007 Census indicated that nearly 1 in 4 children in Oakland is below the poverty level), oral health is often neglected among these children as well as children of immigrants. With the efforts from many local and community-based clinics, educational institutions and volunteers, these children can receive proper oral health care and necessary preventative cares. Working closely with the local elementary schools located in these cities, we aim to provide free oral care resources to children of immigrants and of poverty.
An international collaboration to better children's oral health by promoting oral health education and donating supplies to underserved areas.
