The Romero Pastoral Center was founded by Father Totet Banaynal, S.J., in 2009 to help address the cultural, social, and spiritual needs of the members of Battambang parishes and surrounding communities. With nine full-time Khmer staff and several youth volunteers, we primarily serve the villages directly surrounding Battambang’s St. Peter’s parish. Slowly though, we are beginning to branch out and offer services and support to people in parishes around the Battambang diocese, farther from our center in Battambang city. Activities include workshops teaching about health practices and hygiene, traditional Khmer dance and music classes for children, video production documenting the lives and stories of the poor, intensive research on the social, economic and educational needs of the community, and the creation of a free public children’s library.
We are excited to partner with Oral Health Across Nations! We have recieved over 400 brushes and toothpaste donations that are distributed at workshops in villages, with a short lesson about dental hygiene. Oral health education is a great addition to our existing work on health practices and there has been a great impact on entire communities. Thank you!
